After a day of travel you arrive this afternoon in Kalona, IA, for a Step-On Guided Tour of Kalona Area & Countryside.   Our guide will talk about the customs and lifestyles of the Amish and Mennonite groups in this area as we drive through the Amish Countryside. After we check into our hotel, the Holiday Inn Express in Coralville, IA, we will depart for an included dinner at the The Ox Yoke Inn®.  The Ox Yoke Inn® Restaurant features traditional meals made from timeless Old World German and American recipes passed down from mother to daughter. Five generations of the Leichsenring family has worked at the Ox Yoke Inn serving hearty meals, freshly prepared with salads, vegetables, potatoes and breads. This is "Family Style."   (D)

Thursday, June 4

Enjoy a complimentary hot breakfast at the restaurant by our hotel.  We begin our day with a Step-On Guided tour of the Amana Colonies.  Our guide will talk about how the Amana Colonies represent an American dream come true and see where the past is cherished and hospitality is a way of life. This afternoon we will have time for some shopping in Amana. See if there is a special piece of furniture, fabric, meat or unique gift that catches your eye.  This evening we will enjoy an included family style dinner at the Ronneburg Restaurant. The name "Ronneburg" comes from the medieval fortress in Hesse, Germany bearing the same name, which sheltered the Amana ancestors during their religious persecution over 200 years ago. The building which is currently the Ronneburg Restaurant was a communal kitchen for the colony for many years until it first opened as a restaurant in 1950.   (B,D)

Friday, June 5

After Complimentary hot breakfast by our hotel, we will depart for the Villages of Van Buren. Here we will visit the Dutchman’s Store.  This “old-fashion general store” known as a Quilter’s Paradise with 1000’s of bolts of quilting material and supplies.  Their expansion has added thousands of new products including bulk food and candy, spices, locally made breads and pastries, gifts, flowers and produce.  Lunch today is served in the beautiful Amish home of Clemence and Amanda Bontrager. This will be a meal that you’ll remember for a long time to come because everything is home-raised and home-cooked! We arrive home by early evening with many new memories to share.    (B,L)
