This morning we begin our adventure at Pioneer Trails in Independence, MO, with a Chuck Wagon Lunch & Tour. After our morning drive on the trail there's nothing like a little KC barbeque to satisfy those hunger pains and keep you headed West! Our group meal is set up just a stone's throw from the same Sante Fe trail used by pioneers embarking on their long journey. And that's not the only history! You'll dine right next to the famous Chicago Alton Train Station - the same station where Frank James  arrived from Jefferson City to stand trial and receive his pardon.  Then, we will experience the history of Independence, Missouri through a guided oral tour by our very own Wagon Master and local historian! Next, we will tour Birds Botanicals in Kansas City, MO. When the greenhouse at home was bulging, David Bird rented space in the Interstate Underground Warehouse and immediately brought in 1000 orchids. It grew from there and now with 10,000 plants and 5 rooms, the orchids won. Orchids, decorative pots, all orchid supplies, succulents, carnivorous plants, garden art, and much more are available for sale. David Bird will be our tour guide and will lead us through all of his growing rooms in addition to providing the basics of each variety. Neat critters, very rare orchids, and toad houses can be spotted along the way! After we check into our hotel, the Drury Inn & Suites Kansas City Stadium, we will depart for an included dinner at V’s Italiano Ristorante.    (Lunch & Dinner)

Saturday, June 29
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel this morning before we depart for a tour at the Arabia Steamboat Museum.  Buried Treasure - When the mighty Steamboat Arabia sank near Kansas City on September 5, 1856, she carried 200 tons of mystery cargo. Lost for 132 years, its recovery in 1988 was like finding the King Tut’s Tomb of the Missouri River. Remarkably preserved clothes, tools, guns, dishware and more. The discovery was truly a modern day treasure-hunting story at its best. After an included lunch at Hereford House, we return home.    (Breakfast & Lunch)
